Part of the 30-acre Sammamish Commons, this 19,000 square foot library is designed to draw people in and add vibrancy to the City’s public plaza. The new steel-framed library sits on top of one level of underground parking constructed of post-tensioned concrete. The building is sited to take advantage of views of the Olympic Mountains.
The building uses a two-tiered roof with clerestory windows and skylights positioned to maximize natural daylighting. The lower roof supports a green roof with native plantings while the upper roof features large overhangs and light shelves to shade occupants from direct sunlight. A radiant slab system heats and cools the facility.
