Alaska Building Renovation, Seattle
Services: Structural and Civil
Square Feet: 165,000
Construction Cost: $18,000,000
Completion: 2008
Base Material: Steel
Client: Clark Design Group
Built in 1904, the historic Alaska Building is the first steel-framed skyscraper ever constructed in Seattle. The 15-story, “L” shaped building is currently being renovated into an $18 million hotel with 250 units.
A new, light steel-framed tower with a steel-braced frame core is being constructed at the axis of the building’s “L” shaped design. This addition will seismically brace the existing building, thereby minimizing the number of intrusive upgrades to the historical areas of the existing structure.
